St Andrews and the surrounding area attracts visitors from all over the world. It is the world renowned home of golf, location of the governing body of world golf, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, and the historic world famous Old Course. Golfers can enjoy a further six magnificent courses, all part of the Links Trust, as well as nearby courses at Kingsbarns, Crail and the newly opened Dumbarnie Links.
The Royal Burgh of St Andrews is also home to Scotland's oldest university, founded in 1413. It boasts museums dedicated to golf and the town’s medieval historic buildings including the ancient ruins of the Cathedral, Castle and St Rule’s Tower.
